数据库大学时候学习过，但工作之后从事通信方面的工作一直没有真正的使用过数据库。这次可以再做一些较深的了解。
在Database - Wikipedia这篇文章中讲到了database与DBMS（database management system），我们平常所说的数据库，比如MyDQL、MongoDB、Microsoft SQL Server以及Oracle等都是指的后者，不过我们都是以“数据库”在称呼它们，且已经成为了习惯。
Formally, a "database" refers to a set of related data and the way it is organized. Access to this data is usually provided by a "database management system" (DBMS) consisting of an integrated set of computer software that allows users to interact with one or more databases and provides access to all of the data contained in the database (although restrictions may exist that limit access to particular data). The DBMS provides various functions that allow entry, storage and retrieval of large quantities of information and provides ways to manage how that information is organized.
Because of the close relationship between them, the term "database" is often used casually to refer to both a database and the DBMS used to manipulate it.
DBMS通常提供四种类型的操作：
- Data definition：创建、修改、移除数据的组织形式。
- Update：插入、修改或者删除实际数据。
- retrieval：检索。
- Administration：用户、安全、性能之类的管理。

NoSQL or Relational Database? - Quora这篇文章当中介绍了NoSQL与Relational数据库的一些区别，主要不同在于NoSQL扩展性高，可同时支持数以千计的用户。但Relational数据库在这方面的表现要差一些，只能够支持少量用户。
在Quora的What are the most popular database systems? - Quora问答当中提到了各种数据库的应用情况：MySQL, PostgreSQL,MongoDB和SQLite主要应用在web领域，且MySQL多用于大数据场景，SQLite主要在移动app的存储上。Oracle和SQLServer常应用于企业内部，与web业务相关不是很大。
DB-Engines Ranking - popularity ranking of database management systems是对当前数据库的排名，一看到榜单就很激动有没有。在Database Model一列标识出了不同的模型，有：
- Relational DBMS
- Document store, MongoDB
- Wide column store, Cassandra
- Key-value, Redis
- Search engine, Elasticsearch
- Graph DBMS, Neo4j
- Multi-model, MarkLogic
- Time Series DBMS: InfluxDB
- Multivalue DBMS: Adabas

- Navigational DBMS: IMS
- Object oriented DBMS: ObjectStore
- Native XML DBMS: Sedna
